AH, Rayman. Recently back in the spotlight for Nintendo fans after the release of Rayman 2 for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, the character was once a mainstay of the industry. With numerous quality platformers under his belt, Rayman is beloved, and for good reason—his games are usually pretty dang good. So one can’t help but wonder, where the heck has Rayman been? Troubled Ubisoft (which continues to be in a state of upheaval following yet another round of layoffs at the company) hasn’t forgotten about the character according to series creator Michel Ancel. Indeed, according to him, there might be something to cheer when it comes to Rayman in the not-so-distant future:
I think there’s a kind of remake planned. I don’t remember when specifically, but it will be in HD and I think Ubisoft is adding a few more checkpoints and things like that just to make it a bit less frustrating. I think it’s a nice move, because that’s the only point that could be a problem for non-skilled players. But yeah, I think it’s still a very nice game.
This follows recent rumors alleging that an unannounced game dubbed Rayman 30th Anniversary Edition has been certified by the Australian Classification board. With Rayman turning 30 it would be perfect timing for such a game to exist, eh? And with Ancel throwing fuel onto the fire, well, perhaps it’s only a matter of time before we get an official announcement.
