One of the things that some people might not think about when it comes to retro or retro-style gaming is that there’s a whole lot of history to cover when it comes to video games. Sure, there are classics like Super Mario Bros. or Pac-Man, but that’s really just scratching the surface of what’s out there. Case in point: PC adventure games!

Merge Games is bringing developer Rebelephants’ take on that very genre to Switch this month! Mainlining drops on June 20. Watch the launch trailer:

Here’s what fans can expect from Mainlining when it releases:

Mainlining is a thrilling point and click hacking adventure that mixes dark and dry humour with a gripping narrative that will have you hooked from the very first case. Following the government’s introduction of the BLU Pill Act and the Secret Intelligence Service’s reintroduction of MI7, all online personal data is accessible by the powers that be. Mainlining questions techno-ethics and whether it is acceptable for an organisation to have the power to look at personal data. What if someone else got the key to that?

Some heavy stuff here, but also very interesting to think about. The presentation strives to replicate the sensation of playing on an old PC via both its interface and pixelated graphics, making it a wonderful trip back into the roots of adventure games.
