For those of us living in the United States, today is Thanksgiving, a day we reflect on all of the good fortunes we have to be thankful for and, of course, eat plenty of delicious food. To make your holiday even more enjoyable, we’ve compiled a small playlist of video game tunes that, we think, represent what Thanksgiving is all about!
Harvest Festival (Animal Crossing)
The Harvest Festival is Animal Crossing’s equivalent of Thanksgiving, making it the quintessential tune to listen to today. Just as the holiday it is based on, the staple dish of the Harvest Festival is turkey, so it is the one day of the year that Animal Crossing’s resident turkey, Franklin, is invited to town. Unfortunately for him, it’s not as a guest– he’s going to be the main course! Luckily, the villagers seem to have given up their turkey-hunting ways once Mayor Tortimer retired, and now Franklin serves as the chef in charge of preparing the town’s annual feast in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. He sure has a lot to be thankful for!
Twilight River (Pikmin 3)
Thanksgiving has always been the unofficial start of the Christmas season, and few video game tunes capture the feeling of late autumn as well as the Twilight River theme from Pikmin 3. With winter right around the corner, there’s a lingering chill in the air that’s perfectly reflected in the gentle chimes that ring throughout the piece, as if it could begin snowing at any minute. It’s hard not to feel the crispness of the autumn air on your skin when you listen to this tune, so enjoy the weather while you can before you need to break out your winter clothes!
Gourmet Race (Kirby Super Star)
It’s always nice to bask in the warmth of family and friends on a holiday, but everyone knows the real purpose of Thanksgiving is to eat lots of food, and what better tune to get you motivated for the upcoming feast than Gourment Race from Kirby Super Star? Friendship and familial bonds are thrown out the proverbial window once dinner begins, and it becomes a cutthroat race to pile as many delectable trimmings as you can before they run out. Even Kirby and King Dedede have never had a rivalry as intense as the family table at Thanksgiving!
Fat Wario (Wario Land 3)
Of course, once dinner ends, that bloated feeling that has become so familiar at Thanksgiving sets in. It’s easy to imagine that’s how Wario felt in Wario Land 3 after he’d consume donuts and transform into an even larger, more sluggish version of himself, capable of crashing through floors thanks to his extra weight. I’m sure a lot of us will be able to sympathize with him tonight when it becomes a struggle to just get up from the table!
We hope these tracks help make your holiday even more festive, and from all of us here at Nintendojo, happy Thanksgiving!
