After months of grueling anticipation (which hasn’t been helped by Nintendo’s steady drip feed of teasers and reveals), Pokémon X and Y will finally be making their worldwide debut this Saturday, October 12. Any new Pokémon game is cause for excitement, but X and Y look like they’ll be the most radical installments in the series yet, with a host of new features– like an 18th Pokémon type and never-before-seen Mega Evolutions– that promise to bring some big changes to the franchise.
One thing that won’t change, however, is the way players will be starting their adventure. Before you can set off across the Kalos region, you’ll be given a choice between three new starting Pokémon: the Grass-type hedgehog, Chespin; the Fire-type fox, Fennekin; and the Water-type frog, Froakie. (You’ll also receive one of the original three starting Pokémon– Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle– from Professor Sycamore, but we’ll be focusing solely on the new trio for this poll.) Each Pokémon is charming in its own way, but which one will be accompanying you on your journey?
We’ll be tackling this question ourselves in a special round table later this week (with a guest contribution from Joe Merrick of Serebii.net), but in the meantime, we’d like to know which Kalos Pokémon you’ll be choosing at the start of Pokémon X and Y. Cast your vote in our poll below, and let us know how you came to your decision in the comments!

I’m making a very uninformed decision since I’ve actually never played a Pokemon game, but clearly the “Fire Fox” is the best of the bunch, as is true elsewhere in life. ;^)
I can’t pinpoint a reason why, but this iteration of Pokemon has managed to entice me in a way no previous one has. The only exposure I’ve had to Pokemon in the past is seeing Pikachu and friends in Smash Bros, but I think I’ll be downloading Pokemon Y. Am I crazy?
Team Froakie all the way! If you’ve seen the final evolutions, you know it’s the only correct choice.
You’ve shattered my world-I didn’t think that far ahead with my voting! Darn….
Gotta go with Froakie. He’s got the same kind of look and appeal of Charmander and Totodile, my two favorite starting Pokemon of all-time.
