When veteran developers from Rare went their own way and announced Yooka-Laylee as a spiritual successor to the Banjo-Kazooie series, many gamers took notice, and quite a few of them opened their wallets to support what would become a massively successful Kickstarter. Those fans longing for that old-school platforming experience can now mark their calndars, though a change of plans might complicate things for some gamers.
The team at Playtonic Games has announced that Yooka-Laylee will release on April 11, 2017. However, those hoping to play the game on a Nintendo system received some bittersweet news; the Wii U version has been cancelled but the developer will be releasing the game on Switch. Playtonic has stated that the decision to cancel the Wii U version was based on technical issues it ran into while getting the game to run on the system and that backers who selected the Wii U version will have the option of getting the game on another system or having their contribution refunded. The Switch version of the game will certainly be an option for those folks; however the developer has stated this version won’t be ready at the same time as the other consoles.
For those who didn’t back the project, copies of the game will go for $39.99, £34.99, or €39.99. Playtonic will have more details about the Switch version some time next year.
