After a handful of charming, all-ages entries on 3DS, Level-5 has announced that Yo-Kai Watch is headed in a much darker direction. In the latest CoroCoro magazine, the company revealed Yo-Kai Watch: Shadowside, a new take on the franchise which will encompass a game, a new anime and more.
No specific details have been announced for the game at this time, but apparently the new direction will follow the daughter of current-protagonist Nate, 30 years in the future. A promotional image has been released, and while it looks like franchise mascots Jibanyan and Whisper may still be involved, if they are, they’ve certainly gotten quite a makeover!
While a platform has not been announced, given the fact that Nintendo has published all previous Yo-Kai Watch titles in the west, it seems highly likely that Yo-Kai Watch: Shadowside could be the first title in the franchise to release on Switch.
