Over the weekend, the Toyfare 2017 convention was held in New York City while Wonder Festival 2017 was also held in Japan. At both shows, a number of new Nintendo-related toys made their debut, from across the company’s most popular franchises. Below, you’ll find a sampling of some of the exciting new products on the way!
Unsurprisingly, Pokémon has gotten a lot of attention over the last year. As a result, tons of new merchandise will arrive in the near future, including a line of Mega Bloks, which were announced by the company last week. At Toyfare 2017, a number of additional sets were on display. Apparently, smaller Pokémon will be on sale individually, including Pikachu, Zubat, Eevee and more. There will also be battle two-packs and larger sets for Pokémon such as Gyarados and Charizard.
The Good Smile Company has a number of new options on the way for their popular line of Nendoroid figures. Lillie and Cosmog (Nebby) from Pokémon Sun and Moon will see release, as well as Ash Ketchum. Red has been previously represented, but the new look will focus on Ash’s original appearance from the earliest seasons of the anime. Naturally, the character will be accompanied by Pikachu. Pikachu will also receive its own Nendoroid release. Given the figures often come with a number of accessories, hopefully the character will come with a bottle of ketchup. Pokémon won’t be the sole focus this year from Nendoroid. A blue Kirby is on the way, as is the Robobot armor from last year’s fantastic Kirby: Planet Robobot. Finally, Sakura from Fire Emblem Fates will receive a figure, as well.
Of course, The Good Smile Company doesn’t merely make Nendoroids. While fans of Samus Aran are still waiting for a Metroid title on Switch, a Figma of Samus Aran, based on her appearance in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption should keep fans of Nintendo’s bounty hunter quite happy. A Figma of Red from the original Pokémon games is also on the way.
The World of Nintendo line from Jakks Pacific continues to offer a number of toys and figures from Nintendo’s various franchises. Unsurprisingly, a Link figure based on the character’s appearance in Breath of the Wild will be on the way soon. The company also has a cool new toy for fans of Splatoon: actual working Splattershot and Quick Shot toys! While there have been previous Splatoon water-squirting toys, the Splattershot and Quick Shot from Jakks Pacific will come with different colored “ink!” The “ink” is actually a water-based slime, so parents shouldn’t have to worry about their little Inklings staining things around the house!
