While the Resident Evil franchise started on PlayStation and has more recently been associated with other consoles from other companies, the series shined brilliantly on GameCube. Of course, the games from that era have been re-released many times since then, but soon the most notable entries will be finding their way to Switch for the first time.
The GameCube era of Resident Evil kicked off with an impressive remake of the original game featuring completely overhauled graphics and major gameplay changes that expanded the game and made it more approachable without necessarily making it easier. Next was Resident Evil 0, a prequel game that took the impressive visuals from the remake and told a whole new story leading up to the events of the first game. Finally, there was the most significant game in the series since the original, Resident Evil 4; the title completely overhauled the gameplay in such a way that it completely redefined not just survival horror, but third-person shooters in general.
All three of these games will be releasing for Switch on May 21. A physical bundle featuring Resident Evil HD Remaster and Resident Evil 0 will be released for those who like hard copies, though it should be mentioned that Resident Evil 0 will be on the game card, while Resident Evil will be a digital download, similar to Resident Evil Revelations Collection. The digital versions of all three games will be available for pre-purchase February 28 on the eShop.
