While he might be best known as a TV and film writer, especially with hits like Star Wars: Rogue One under his belt, Gary Whitta has a long history with video games. The writer served as PC Gamer’s editor-in-chief long before his writing ever showed up on small or silver screens. Considering this, it should come as little surprise that he’s expressed interest in trying his hand at a video game project.
Whitta took to Twitter to talk about his desire to write the script for an animated Star Fox movie. The art included in the tweet that inspired the writer’s interest features a more realistic take on the property and was created by Raf Grassetti, another gaming industry veteran who served as art director on Sony’s God of War.
I want to write this animated movie. https://t.co/CGQ6rkEWYF

While Whitta’s interest is definitely noteworthy, by no means is this anything close to some sort of official announcement. Nintendo did find success with last year’s Detective Pikachu film, but the company has long been protective of its properties, and Star Fox doesn’t quite carry the same cultural weight has the company’s biggest brands. Still, it’s a fun concept!
