While Nintendo Switch OLED Model just launched a little less than a month ago, the Switch line of consoles has already been on the market since 2017. That’s four years, and with PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series consoles already available, many have been wondering what will be the next hardware to come from Nintendo. While many details about the successor to Switch are nebulous at best, we know one thing for certain: the next Nintendo hardware will launch in the year 20XX.
No, that’s not a typo. It’s the year listed in the recent Corporate Management Policy Briefing. Sadly, that means the release year could be anywhere from 2022 to 2099, but take heart because if nothing else, Nintendo is at least openly discussing what it has in store for the future. One element of the company’s mysterious new console is that Nintendo wants to maintain the “integrated hardware-software” setup that it has been following for years now.
Nintendo plans to continue to expand its business around the core concept of creating unique integrated hardware-software products.
We seek a virtuous cycle with our integrated hardware-software business and the provision of services and content based on Nintendo Accounts, in which touchpoints are created with ever more consumers and strengthened to establish long-term, mutually positive relationships.
Pushing the bland corporate talk aside, it sounds like Nintendo is hoping to utilize individual members to continue growing its brand by offering goods and services that help to draw them in and maintain long-lasting relationships. Considering Nintendo is a genuinely cross-generational force in the world of entertainment, it makes sense Nintendo would want to maintain this approach.
