Ōkami is a timeless classic, rereleased multiple times since its initial launch back in 2006 on PlayStation 2. While at the time the game garnered a slew of positive reviews, it took a long time for word of mouth to draw in the huge audience that Ōkami now enjoys. Eventually, that popularity gave way to multiple ports, with arguably the most integral being the Nintendo Wii version. Eventually fans got HD remasters of Ōkami, and even a Nintendo DS sequel titled Ōkamiden along the way.
In the time since, while the fan base for Ōkami remains huge, there hasn’t been any word on a sequel from Capcom… until now. During The Game Awards, it was revealed that another sequel is on the way. Take a look:
That’s right, not only is another Ōkami on the way, but original director Hideki Kamiya is also coming back, along with other members of the original development team. Alas, if there’s any sort of negative to be had from this news, it’s that there hasn’t been any reveal as to when the next Ōkami will launch, nor for which platforms. Indeed, Kamiya himself expects that it will be some time before fans get any new announcements about this sequel.
Regardless, this is great news for fans of both the original Ōkami and action-adventure games in general. Will you be playing this one when it comes out? Share your excitement level down in the comments and on social media!
