Perhaps in an effort to avoid the kind of Internet-shattering backlash that it faced when it briefly withheld the game from EVO 2013, Nintendo has announced early that it will allow the ever popular brawler Super Smash Bros. Melee to be a part of 2014’s Evolution World Championships.
The tournament, held in Las Vegas, Nevada from July 11 – 13, will be an excellent chance for the Big N to reignite interest in the franchise prior to the release of the game’s next iterations on 3DS and Wii U. If the over 100,000 concurrent viewers that Melee was able to sustain during last year’s tournament is any indication, however, interest in the series may be stronger now than ever.

Props to anyone who plays tournament Smash. To anyone who says Smash isn’t a true fighting game, please watch “How Fast Is Melee” on YouTube. Then tell me how “casual” Smash is.
