Upcoming indie platformer Shovel Knight will miss its release date “by a few weeks,” according to developer Yacht Club Games. The Kickstarter-funded game was originally slated for release on Wii U, 3DS, and Steam on March 31. The studio says it is using the extra time for dialogue and scripted events, the finishing touches on level design and boss battles, game balancing, platform optimization, and testing.

It’s worryingly common these days for Kickstarter darlings to get delayed, and many of them never even see a full release. Yacht Club, however, seems to have Shovel Knight polished and close to completion. From what we’ve seen of the game, we’re hopeful it will live up to its ambitious promise and the Zelda II style of sidescrolling gameplay will have a deserving revival.
