This weekend at Austin’s massive SXSW event, Nintendo’s mustachioed plumber made a big impact. While the real-life version of Mario Kart got fans hyped for the release of Mario Kart 8, Mario’s previous Wii U outing continued to make waves. Super Mario 3D World grabbed the SXSW award for Best Multiplayer Game, with “Mario and Luigi” appearing on-stage to accept the prestigious award.

The award should come as little surprise to Nintendo fans. Super Mario 3D World has won a number of awards since its release late last year, including “Game of the Year” from several media outlets, with many lauding the title’s unique multiplayer mode. Nintendo’s other big release for the holiday season, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, was also nominated for the Excellence in Gameplay Award, but sadly lost to Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons.

Some third party titles available on Wii U also managed to win awards at the event, however. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag won an award for Excellence in Gaming Marketing, while Injustice: Gods Among Us brought home the Covergence Award, which is given to the game with the best crossover appeal across multiple mediums. Injustice beat out another Wii U title, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, for the award.
