Nintendo’s level creation tool Super Mario Maker has remained one of the most popular titles on Wii U since its debut last year, but 3DS owners will soon be able to get in on the fun as well, as Nintendo has announced a portable version of the game will be releasing on the handheld on December 2.
Like the Wii U version, Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS will retain the same suite of tools and customization options players are familiar with (with the exception of the Mystery Mushroom and its corresponding costumes, which are exclusive to the original title), though there will be a few notable differences between the two versions. Given its portable nature, the emphasis this time around is sharing your creations with friends. To that end, players will not be able to upload their custom levels online, but they can be shared locally with other players and passed along via StreetPass. The game also allows you to share incomplete levels, allowing you to collaborate with other players to complete a level.
Are you interested in playing a 3DS version of Super Mario Maker? Do you like the idea of collaborating with friends on courses, or is the lack of online sharing a disappointment? Let us know in the comments!
