One of the most exciting announcement to come out of the Nintendo Switch 2 Nintendo Direct last month was the reveal that GameCube games will be coming exclusively to that console. Playable as part of the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription tier, a handful of titles were shown off in the trailer, along with several that are on the way. One was shown off at the Nintendo Experience event that we attended a few weeks back that hadn’t been previously revealed, so let’s take everything we know so far and compile it into a handy list:
- The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (Launch)
- Soul Caliber II (Launch)
- F-Zero GX (Launch)
- Super Mario Strikers
- Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness
- Pokémon Colosseum
- Chibi Robo!
- Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
- Super Mario Sunshine
- Luigi’s Mansion
Of the ten games listed above, the only ones with a certain release date are Wind Waker, Soul Caliber II, and F-Zero GX, which will hit the service on June 5, 2025 on the same day that Switch 2 launches. Everything else is a tad more nebulous, although the rep we spoke with seemed to believe that Strikers would likely be the next game out of the chute. It was running quite smoothly for us at the Nintendo Switch Experience event, with many an attendee hopping into matches of Mario-themed soccer while there.
It’s an attractive lineup, certainly, especially for players that haven’t been able to experience these games in decades. Others, meanwhile, will be able to play these games for the first time, without having to jump through the hoops (and take on the expense) of sourcing original hardware and discs.
