New Pokémon TCG Expansion Scarlet & Violet—Black Bolt & White Flare Coming in July

The next Pokémon TCG expansion has been revealed, and it’s Scarlet & Violet—Black Bolt & White Flare. It’s pretty close to hitting stores, too, with a July 18, 2025 release date. The Unova region is the focus of this expansion, with the 156 Pokémon from Pokémon Black and White center at the heart of the set. Here’s a bit more about what to expect from the expansion:

• Six Pokémon ex
• Eight ultra rare Pokémon and Supporter cards
• One illustration rare or special illustration rare card for each Unova Pokémon
• One special illustration rare Supporter card

Perhaps of most interest to collectors is the new rarity that will be introduced in Black Bolt & White Flare. “The highly styled Black White rare cards,” as they’re referred to, will sport monochromatic designs distinct from others in the set. Fans will have a chance to pluck these rare cards from the usual assortment of Elite Trainer Boxes, Mini Tins, and individual booster packs this summer.

What isn’t clear is if any sort of measures are being taken to combat scalpers, who have made it impossible to purchase Pokémon cards of late without having to incur a premium cost. It’s an incredibly unfair situation for fans that has been ongoing for years now. At what point will The Pokémon Company take meaningful measures to help ensure its products end up with consumers without having to go through middlemen?
