Scalpers Are Targeting Physical Copies of Metroid Prime Remastered

Don’t give in to their ridiculous prices!

Metroid Prime Remastered is a marvelous reworking of the 2002 GameCube classic. During the February 8 Nintendo Direct broadcast, fans were delighted to learn that not only was the game coming to Nintendo Switch, but that it would also be made available for purchase that day—from the eShop. Fans wanting a physical cartridge would have to wait a bit longer until it came to store shelves on February 24.

Well, that date has come and gone and sadly Metroid Prime Remastered is somewhat scarce at retail. GameStops have been experiencing delays getting copies in stock, and retailers that do have the game don’t have a lot of copies. Part of this is blame can be placed at the feet of opportunistic scalpers who are swooping in and scooping up copies to sell for double (and sometimes more) the MSRP of $39.99.

Thankfully, Nintendo isn’t completely resting on its laurels for this one. After an inquiry was made by Nintendo Life regarding the shortage of copies, this was the company’s official response:

We will do everything we can to meet the strong demand for the product. Please continue to check with major retailers for availability. If the Metroid Prime Remastered game sells out at various retail locations in the U.S., we will work to provide more units as soon as possible.

There’s no word on when these additional copies will become available, but we would argue that whatever the wait may be, it will be worth it. Nintendo had a similar shortage of the Sanrio amiibo Cards that are compatible with Animal Crossing: New Horizons. At launch, those cards were nearly impossible to find in-store. Now, Targets have an abundance of them. So, don’t give some scalper $100 for Metroid Prime Remastered—instead, give Nintendo some time and wait it out. But hey, the choice is yours.
