The rumor mill has been abuzz with all sorts of “Switch 2” talk, or rather, what Nintendo’s next console is going to be like. While the system has not been officially announced, it’s known that Nintendo is indeed working on it, albeit very secretly. The latest scuttlebutt centers around a couple of interesting factors that should be appealing to current Switch owners and potential upcoming adopters of the next console:

  • A Custom Nvidia Chip: The current Switch already runs on an Nvidia chip, but the successor will have one tailored to Nintendo’s specifications.
  • Backwards Compatibility: Not just the cartridges, but digital games, as well. What’s more, rumors suggest that current-gen Switch games will get a performance boost when booted up on the new console.

A couple of other rumors have been circulating in recent weeks, including speculation that the screen size of the Switch successor will be significantly larger than either of the current models. Finally, there’s talk that there might be a Nintendo Direct broadcast at some point next week and that fans could potentially hear word about this mystery machine. We’ll have to wait and see, but as ever it’s fun to debate what the future holds for Nintendo.
