Nicalis has been mighty busy bringing a variety of different titles to Nintendo Switch over the year that the console has been on the market. Titles like Cave Story+, The End is Nigh, and Tiny Barbarian DX have all brought a healthy dose of indie goodness to the system. It’s the future we’re concerned with at the moment, and one title in particular: Blade Strangers.
Like SNK Heroines, Blade Strangers is a fighting game that emphasizes strategy over complicated command inputs. As in the Super Smash Bros. series of games, attacks in Blade Strangers are pulled off with combinations of attack buttons and directional inputs. That in and of itself is a cool departure, but Blade Strangers also boasts a unique roster packed with indie characters. With fighters ranging from Cave Story‘s Quote to Gunvolt, there’s a healthy variety of fighters to choose from and faces that many fans will be seeing interact for the first time in a video game.
While Blade Strangers is showing a ton of promise, a release date had been elusive— until now! The game is dropping on August 28.
