Rockstar made some waves when it announced that Red Dead Redemption would be coming to Nintendo Switch. The series has a passionate fanbase, one that has been clamoring for a proper remake of the original PlayStation 3/Xbox 360 title for some time now. Indeed, Red Dead Redemption II even has nearly the entirety of that game’s map contained within it, further spurring on the notion that Rockstar would eventually provide a full revamp not unlike what Sony did when bringing The Last of Us more in line with the visuals of its sequel.

Alas, that doesn’t seem to be in the cards at this point. Instead, Red Dead Redemption (with its Undead Nightmare DLC in tow) will be coming to Nintendo Switch in what Rockstar is calling “a new conversion.” The game launches digitally on August 17 and at retail in physical form on October 13. Curious? Take a look at some game footage, below:

Social media has seen a smattering of outrage posts from alleged fans, especially over the game’s $50 MSRP, but Internet uproar isn’t always a legitimate indicator of actual customer dissatisfaction, so only time will tell if calls to boycott or refuse to purchase this iteration of Read Dead Redemption will amount to anything. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy on Nintendo Switch launched to similar online dismay but has gone on to be a hit for Rockstar. Will Red Dead Redemption do the same? Let us know what you think in the comments and on social media!
