It has been rumored for months, due in no small part to the fact that multiple leaks of different kinds have been getting reported left and right, but Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition has finally been confirmed as coming to Nintendo Switch. Rockstar made the announcement today as part of its celebrating of Grant Theft Auto III turning 20 years old. There’s a small teaser video to watch in the announcement tweet, which you can see here:

The compilation, as the name asserts, collects the trilogy of PlayStation 2-era Grand Theft Auto games into a single package. That includes Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, and San Andreas. These versions of the games are said to incorporate improved graphics and controls while retaining the “classic look and feel” of the originals. For those who might be interested in playing the original versions of these three games, note that digital storefronts will see them removed beginning next week, so act accordingly.
There’s no price or release date for The Definitive Edition just yet, nor word on if there will be a physical cartridge to buy, but we’ll let you all know as soon as this information is announced. GTA has appeared on Nintendo hardware before, perhaps most notably Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars on DS, but this is the first time that a mainline series entry will be coming to one of the company’s consoles.
