It’s been quite a few months since Nintendo announced an all-new Pikmin title for 3DS, but fans won’t have to wait too much longer to return to the planet of the Pikmin: Olimar’s first handheld adventure will be landing on July 28.
Rechristened as Hey! Pikmin, the 3DS game is a decidedly different take on the series’ gameplay. Players still amass an army of Pikmin and use their collective strength to defeat enemies and retrieve treasures, but they’ll be doing so from a sidescrolling perspective, not unlike Kirby’s excellent DS experiment, Kirby Mass Attack. Just as in that game, players will be tapping on the handheld’s touchscreen to throw their Pikmin, and they’ll need to make use of each Pikmin’s inherent abilities to solve puzzles and work their way through stages.
Nintendo also revealed that a new Pikmin Amiibo figure will be launching alongside the title. While the company didn’t detail the Amiibo’s functionality, it did confirm that more information on the game will be revealed leading up to its launch.
