It’s another slow week for Nintendo downloads, though the Wii U eShop did see the release of another Nintendo 64 classic: Paper Mario, Intelligent System’s first outing with the Mario franchise. Unlike Square’s role-playing take on the Mario universe, Paper Mario featured a unique visual style reminiscent of a pop-up book, with paper-thin characters roaming about three-dimensional environments. While a bit on the simple side, Paper Mario is nonetheless a charming and inventive adventure, and it’s definitely worth a look whether or not you’ve already played it.
Aside from that, Nintendo has also released Amiibo Tap: Nintendo’s Greatest Bits this week, a free downloadable application that’s compatible with Amiibo figures. By tapping an Amiibo on the GamePad, players will be able to play brief highlights of classic NES and Super NES games. And on the handheld front, 3DS owners can now download a free demo of Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition, Nintendo’s crossover with the hugely popular Puzzle & Dragons series.

It seems like Nintendo has really turned the corner recently with Wii U virtual console releases. As a result, I have quite the backlog at the moment.

Downloaded Paper Mario 64 on my wii in the winter to get through those snowy days. I have a 64 and couldn’t believe I had missed that game when it originally came out. Lots of fun!
