All things considered, it’s been a fairly quiet year for Nintendo when it comes to new games. What has come out has been entertaining, but in terms of blockbusters, 2024 is a bit lacking. That isn’t exactly changing with yesterday’s news, but fans at least have another game to look forward to this summer in the form of Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition. Take a gander:

The name here should be familiar to longtime Nintendo fans, as it pays tribute to the Nintendo World Championships held in 1990, 2015, and 2017. This version will bring with it 150 speedrun challenges across three different NES games. These challenges involve timed segments of gameplay where players do things like collect coins, defeat enemies, and so on, as quickly as possible. Here are the games being utilized:

  • Balloon Fight
  • Donkey Kong
  • Excitebike
  • Ice Climber
  • Kid Icarus
  • Kirby’s Adventure
  • Metroid
  • Super Mario Bros.
  • Super Mario Bros. 2
  • Super Mario Bros. 3
  • Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels
  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

Physical collectors will have plenty to be excited about, as Nintendo World Championship: NES Edition will ship as a standard release as well as a special Deluxe Set. Let’s take a look at the contents:

Here’s everything included in the Deluxe Set:

  • A physical copy of the game
  •  5 collectible pins
  • 13 art cards commemorating each of the featured NES classics
  • A replica of the fabled gold-colored NES Game Pak (for display only, stand included)

The Deluxe Set can be pre-ordered at most brick-and-mortar locations, including GameStop. The fun begins July 18, 2024—will you be giving this one a play? Tell us in the comments and on social media!
