Onimusha: Way of the Sword has been slowly building towards its September 25, 2026 release date. What Capcom has shown of the game has been incredibly promising, but sitting there like an elephant in the room was the question of when or even if the game might come to Nintendo Switch 2. During the recent Nintendo Direct broadcast, fans were elated to learn that Way of the Sword will not only be coming to Switch 2, but it will be arriving on the same day as all other versions of the game.
If you’re unfamiliar, it’s been a long while since the last Onimusha title came out. Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams came to PlayStation 2 20 years ago and the series has been largely silent since then, outside of a rerelease here and there. Way of the Sword is set to reinvigorate the franchise, promising an all-new adventure, mechanics, and more. Here’s what Capcom says about the game:
The new title returns to a dark fantasy feudal Japan where samurai clash with the supernatural in cutting-edge combat. Set in Kyoto during the early Edo period, the game follows battles between Miyamoto Musashi, a lone samurai armed with the Oni Gauntlet, and the demonic Genma, creatures from the underworld hellbent on conquering the realm of the living.
