I’ll be honest: I really wasn’t expecting to see Metroid Prime 4 in any capacity during today’s Nintendo Direct broadcast. It’s been years since the game was announced, and while I didn’t think it was vaporware, I sincerely believed it was still in such a state that it wasn’t quite ready for primetime. It turns out I was quite wrong, as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond wasn’t just given a new trailer, it was a gameplay-centric trailer showing off assets from within the game itself. Take a look:

All jokes aside, this was a really impressive showing. The gameplay, the design work, and so on, all strongly evoked previous entries in the series. As for what the game is about? Well, this is all Nintendo has to say at this point (besides the nebulous 2025 release window):
The galaxy’s greatest bounty hunter Samus Aran will embark on a new mission. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, a new entry in the Metroid Prime series, is coming to Nintendo Switch in 2025.
We do spot what appears to be the game’s antagonist, an armor-clad foe with an arm beam weapon and a pretty menacing helmet with a single stripe of green light running up and down the face. As we learn more we’ll continue to fill you all in, but give us your speculation about Metroid Prime 4: Beyond down in the comments!
I thought it’d never happen…
