As they say, all good things do come to an end.
It’s been reported that Capcom will be officially shutting down the servers for online co-op on April 30 for its Wii title, Monster Hunter Tri. Reasons for doing so mostly have to do with the release of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for the 3DS and the Wii U. Despite being a fairly popular title, this kind of transitioning is nothing new. Most companies tend to do this during that strange bridge time between consoles, though some think this is a ploy to get people to buy the newer versions as well.
This also seems to signify the obvious that the Wii is starting to power down, and it’s only a matter of time before we start to speculate what will be the last game released for the system.

Monster Hunter Tri was the best online-capable game for Wii. Even though I don’t play any more, it swallowed hundreds of hours of my time and was tremendously entertaining. Hats off to Capcom for giving core Wii owners one of the best games of the generation.
Fingers crossed that MH4 3DS will have online capability in the West!
Kind of sad… Another game to add my list of “Games that I was excited for but once that I bought it I didn’t played it long enough”…
The single player campaign alone can take close to 100 hours, so having servers shut down doesn’t prevent you from getting good value from the game… but playing online is a really fun experience and well worth the time investment. April 30 is still a long ways off too – so if you feel that you haven’t played enough then get on it now.
