After shutting down online service for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U platforms earlier this year one might assume that both consoles were finally put to their eternal rest, but it would seem that there are still some nails left to hammer into their coffins. In this case, word has come from Nintendo that the company will cease to offer repairs for New Nintendo 3DS handhelds. Nintendo made the announcement via its Japanese X account:
「ニンテンドー2DS本体」、「Newニンテンドー3DS本体」および「Newニンテンドー3DS LL本体」の修理サービスにつきましては、現在保有している部品在庫がなくなり次第、終了させていただきます。
※「Newニンテンドー2DS LL」は引き続き修理を承ります。 https://t.co/bHn2XsI7oO pic.twitter.com/G7ppXTfVH2— 任天堂サポート (@nintendo_cs) March 15, 2024
If there’s a silver lining it’s that Nintendo will continue to make repairs on New 2DS LL systems for the time being. Still, it sucks seeing support completely die for the handheld, as it means that what consoles exist in the wild will become harder and harder to keep in working condition. So, be careful with your 3DS as you continue to play games on it moving forward.
