Next year’s Professor Layton title, Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy, may be the gentlemanly professor’s “final adventure,” but it won’t be the last of the Layton franchise; during its special Vision event in Japan today, Level-5 announced Layton 7, a new– and rather unusual– installment of the series in development for 3DS and mobile devices.
Unlike previous Layton titles, Layton 7 is being billed as a “role-playing puzzle game,” and features a new isometric viewpoint and cast of characters. Details are still scarce, but Nintendo Everything has captured brief video footage of the title, which can be seen below.
During the same event, Level-5 also announced Wonder Flick, a fantasy RPG for Wii U and other platforms. Like Layton 7, details on the game are still scarce, but it will feature touch mechanics and a cross-platform saving system, not to mention a score by none other than famed video game composer Nobuo Uematsu.
What do you think of Level-5’s new take on the Layton series? What about the first footage of Wonder Flick? Let us know in the comments!

Hmmm… Well, they both look pretty promising. I guess it’s just odd to keep calling the series by Layton’s name if he’s not going to be in it anymore.
