November 16 marks the birthday of one of the most influential creators in all of gaming. Nintendo’s own Shigeru Miyamoto turned 63 today (yesterday in Japan!).
Considered by many to be the founder of the modern era of gaming, Miyamoto helped Nintendo revitalize the gaming industry in the 1980’s. As the creator behind Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda, Miyamoto became a household name long before any other developer. Since those halcyon days, Miyamoto has taken on a more supervisory role at Nintendo, but his influence on the company, not to mention the entire gaming industry, is as relevant today as it was 30 years ago!
If not for Shigeru Miyamoto, there wouldn’t be a website like Nintendojo. In fact, we might not have a video game industry at all! Before the release of the original NES, alongside Super Mario Bros., gaming was considered a dying fad. The ideas of Shigeru Miyamoto saved the industry, and changed entertainment forever. So please join us in wishing Miyamoto-san a very happy birthday, and many more to come! As always, we eagerly await what comes next.
Happy (belated) B-day, Shiggy!
… Who is this…?
I think he designs toys. Or something.
The master of game design. If it wasn’t for him, we might not be playing games on consoles today. Who knows?
