The Grandia franchise may not have the same name recognition as Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest, but the series has long been beloved by fans of the role-playing genre, garnering strong reviews along the way. For that reason, RPG enthusiasts will be happy to know that the series will finally make its Nintendo debut on Switch this winter!
Grandia and Grandia II will both receive an HD remaster, though additional details remain sparse at this time. Originally released in 1997 and 2000 respectively, the two titles appeared on Saturn, PS1 and Dreamcast. Developed by GameArts, the original Grandia puts players in the role of a hero named Justin as he attempts to discover the secrets of a lost civilization. The developer is also known for their work on Lunar: Silver Star Story, another acclaimed JRPG from the same era.
With the success of Square Enix’s Octopath Traveler, it appears that there’s a strong demand for RPGs on Nintendo’s latest platform. The addition of two critically lauded games will only help bolster Switch’s library. We’ll have more information on Grandia and Grandia II HD as it develops!
