Yesterday, Konami reported that Super Bomberman R has crossed the one million units sold mark, with the majority of those sales on Switch. While that was certainly an impressive showing for a third party game on a Nintendo platform, today’s news is even bigger: Square Enix’s Octopath Traveler has sold one million units worldwide in just three weeks! According to the publisher, that number includes both physical and digital sales.
A Switch-exclusive RPG, Octopath Traveler follows eight heroes each with their own unique storyline. Some reviewers lamented the fact that the stories themselves don’t intertwine, but the game’s gorgeous 2D style has drawn comparisons to Square’s SNES classics, such as Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger.
The success of Octopath Traveler is certainly another good omen for Switch. While The World Ends With You: Final Remix is coming later this year, Square Enix does not have much else announced for Switch at this time. If the publisher wasn’t already considering bringing more titles to the platform, it seems safe to assume they are now.

25 hours in and loving it.
I’m excited to see how Octopath’s success will influence Square Enix’s Switch plans. Other new titles in this style? Remakes of old classics with an “Octopath-style” makeover?
Bring it.
