Nicalis, the developer of Cave Story+, announced on Twitter today that the upcoming Switch version of the game will be getting a local multiplayer mode via a free update after it launches this summer.
The developer’s full tweet reads:

The original Cave Story was released on WiiWare and DSiWare in 2010 to critical acclaim. An enhanced edition, Cave Story+, was later made available on Steam in 2011 and it is this version which is coming to Switch on June 20. The title will receive both a physical and eShop release.
