If you already weren’t convinced that Super Mario Maker will feature robust content, Nintendo has released a new video showcasing even more features that will be included with the game when it releases September 11 on Wii U.
The video shows off the sound effects feature, which can be used to embed various sound effects and visuals to be cued into the level. Players can even record their own sound effects that can be played in a level. Along these lines is also the music block, which has been revealed to play certain notes if placed in levels at various heights. It’s not a new music composer like Mario Paint, but it will allow clever players to compose music that will play from the blocks.
The video also elaborates on the online community that will be featured in Super Mario Maker. Players can follow level creators they like, and can browse from levels based on ratings. Only levels that can actually be beaten are able to be posted online. There will also be Mario challenges that will run you through a gauntlet of randomly chosen creator levels one after the other. You can take the 100 life or 10 life challenge. How long can you survive?
One last feature of note is that creation tools on Super Mario Maker will be drip fed to players as they play. New tools are set to be unlocked each day you play, and it will take nine days to unlock everything there is. Can the Wii U internal clock be tampered with to get around these limitations? We’ll find out next month when Super Mario Maker launches for Wii U.
