Regardless of which platform you own, there’s something to look forward to this year; 3DS will be continuing its momentum with engrossing new adventures like Bravely Default and Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy, while Wii U will truly be coming into its own with major first-party offerings like Mario Kart 8 and the next installment of Smash Bros., not to mention Monolith Soft’s next role-playing epic, X, and Yarn Yoshi presumably making their debuts as well.

With so many exciting games looming on the horizon, we’d like to know, which 2014 release are you looking forward to most? Cast your vote in our poll, and if we happened to miss your favorite, then tell us below in the comments!

Talk about a poll akin to picking your favorite child.

I’ll be getting all of Mario Kart 8, Yoshi’s New Island, Bravely Default, Yarn Yoshi, Mario Golf, and DKC. I’ve never actually tried a Layton game, although I may have to rectify that.

Woah, I’m really going to have to think about this one. When I first glanced down to the list, I thought “ooh, Bravely Default, no brainer”. But then I saw Tropical Freeze. And Mario Kart 8. And Smash Bros. And X.

I guess Bravely Default is the only one I’ve already pre-ordered the deluxe package for, but I know damn well I’ll do the same for any of the others at the first opportunity. :^)

Really, out of all the titles presented, X appears to have the only distinction of being something I’ve never played before.

All the other games look great – and will offer no doubt what will be plenty of hours of enjoyment. But you know what you’re getting. When you put in Mario Kart =8=, you’re essentially just checking out what they’ve done with the formula. Oh, I can drive on walls this time? Well, ring-a-ding-ding, I guess.

Or Smash Bros. Or Donkey Kong. Or Yoshi’s Island. Or Mario Golf. Or any other game I was already playing fifteen years ago.

When I see the trailer for X – it still leaves room for my imagination. I can imagine jumping into an experience, custom tailored for every Evangelion and Transformer nut out there, but without knowing how the controls will work, what the game-play will be like, or how the narration will be presented. I see these beautiful worlds, inviting me just to be there. And out of all of these titles, it’s the one place I’ve never been before.

My vote, which is also my game of the generation in terms of hype so far, goes to Smash Bros. But really, all of the Wii U games in the top of the poll look very appealing, and will likely all be purchases at some point.
