Following last week’s surprise announcement (yes we’re still talking about it) the price of Nintendo’s eye-popping handheld is set to plummet within the next few weeks. Pre-existing owners and anyone who picks up a 3DS before August 12th will be compensated with ten free 3D-ified NES games and ten free Game Boy Advance games but the question of the console’s mediocre exclusive library still lingers in the air.
You’ve already read our thoughts on the matter, now it’s your turn. What will you do? Pick up a 3DS now to gurantee you those oh-so-tempting freebies, wait until the price drop or hang around until later in the year when Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land will actually be released? If you can think of a particularly novel and awesome response that we have foolishly omitted from our lowly poll then please, let us know in the comments!

We just had the Round Table last week. I’m not getting into this again.
Someone please explain to me the rationale behind the anger here. I bought a launch 3DS. I knew the big games were coming later, but I wanted one anyway. Since I wasn’t born yesterday, I understand that early adopters pay more for high-tech devices. A price cut was inevitable. I paid $300 for a first-gen Palm Pre, which got a lot cheaper a lot quicker than the 3DS, and I don’t feel bad about that either. Both devices are awesome, and I hope the lower price gets more people on-board with them.
Now, Nintendo’s giving me 20 free games. I know I already own most of the ones I care about in one form or another, but I’ve become quite attached to my 3DS and having them all right there, with me at all times, sounds awesome. I would have paid again for several of these.
I guess I just don’t see what all the fuss is about. If we’re going to get angry at Nintendo, let’s do it over Xenoblade and Last Story, or even Project Hammer for that matter (yes, I’m still sore about that one).
Where’s the “I bought it at launch and think 20 free games is awesome” option? :p
What are you talking about? It’s right there ;)
Yeah, I’d totally jump on that option.
I don’t get it either. I bought one at launch, $250 and knew the price would drop sooner or later. I didn’t want to wait, my decision. Now that the price has dropped 4 months later, I’m happy I’m getting 20 free games. I didn’t expect to get anything. Let’s see, I get 20 free games, more people will buy the system which means more developers will consider it, more street passes, more people online to play with. Anyone mad about “losing” $80 needs to find a less expensive hobby.
