Yooka-Replaylee Console Announcement Mentions Unspecified Nintendo Hardware

“And… Nintendo?”

Yooka-Replaylee is the upcoming remaster of Yooka-Laylee that was announced back in June. While the original game was on Switch and this remaster seems like a shoe in for the console, as well, the elephant in the room when it came to that announcement trailer was the obvious fidelity bump and knowing the current Nintendo hardware likely wouldn’t be able to support it.

In an interesting move, developer Playtonic has decided to tackle this wrinkle head on versus waiting to make an announcement down the road (as other devs have done in the past) by revealing that Yooka-Replaylee will come to Nintendo… but didn’t specify what Nintendo hardware that would be.

Here’s the exact quote from Playtonic’s press release:

Yes! Yooka-Replaylee will be playable on PS5, Xbox Series consoles and… Nintendo? (Ooh mysterious. We’ll have more on that as soon as poss!)

That is indeed a mysterious thing to say, now isn’t it? Where could Yooka-Replaylee wind up if not on Nintendo Switch? Although reading between the lines it is perhaps not all that opaque when one considers that Nintendo is apparently on the cusp of revealing the successor to Switch, an announcement that the company promises will be coming before the end of its fiscal year in March of 2025. Many have speculated that this reveal is forthcoming and will drop before then, but at this point it’s anybody’s guess when fans will hear about the so-called Switch 2 and what games it will have. But hey, don’t let that stop you from speculating about it in the comments and on social media!
