The Wii U was no stranger to unique and entertaining pinball games. This year, Swedish developer Villa Gorilla will seek to continue that trend on Nintendo’s next system with the release of Yoku’s Island Express for Switch.
Yoku’s Island Express will follow protagonist Yoku, a dung beetle and the new postman of Mokumana Island. Throughout Yoku’s adventure, he’ll have to solve puzzles, defeat enemies, rebuild the island’s post office and awaken a sleeping god. The developer calls the title “an open-world pinball adventure.” We’ve embedded the game’s trailer below!
According to the developer, the title takes inspiration from the films of Studio Ghibli, with a focus on hand-drawn visuals and interactions between nature, spirit and life. While the adventure and pinball genres have seen some crossover in the past, the combination of a Metroidvania-influenced world with pinball is certainly a new and interesting concept. The four-man development team at Villa Gorilla seems to have created something unique, at the very least! Stay tuned to Nintendojo for more information on the title in the coming months!
