While Nintendo has pledged to continue to support 3DS, owners of the handheld couldn’t be blamed for being a bit skeptical after this year’s E3 presentation. No new games were announced for the platform, and no previously announced games were even shown throughout the week. This morning, however, Nintendo announced a pair of new titles for the system in the form of Yo-Kai Watch Blasters: Red Cat Corps and White Dog Squad!

A spin-off from the main Yo-Kai Watch series, Yo-Kai Watch Blasters eschews the turn-based battles the RPG franchise is known for in favor of co-op, real-time battles against massive foes. Players can recruit up to three other players locally or online, and the title will receive a free, post-launch update which will include more missions and more Yo-Kai!

Each version of Yo-Kai Watch Blasters will feature exclusive missions and Yo-Kai, with both titles boasting an impressive 400 Yo-Kai between them. Franchise fans that picked up any of the three versions of Yo-Kai Watch 2 will be able to get one of three exclusive Yo-Kai that can be brought into battle in Yo-Kai Watch Blasters.

Interestingly enough, Yo-Kai Watch Blasters is known as Yo-Kai Watch Busters in Japan, seemingly in reference to the Ghostbusters film franchise. The team’s car even bares a strong resemblance to the Ecto-1! The localized Yo-Kai Watch games have never shied away from references to the Ghostbusters films, so it is curious that Nintendo and Level-5 opted to change the title for its Western release.

Yo-Kai Watch Blasters: Red Cat Corps and White Dog Squad will release in North America and Europe on September 7. Stay tuned to Nintendojo for more information as the release date approaches!
