Developer Vicarious Visions constantly pushes the boundaries of Nintendo Wii with online content. The company was the first third party to have an online title (Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock) for Wii, first to utilize high-capacity SD cards, and also axed Friend Codes by transferring Wii Address Books’ buddies straight into the game for Guitar Hero 5.
But the developer is not finished yet. Producer Joe Fisher, of Vicarious Visions, discussed the new online content for the Wii version of Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock at an Activision press event for the game on Wednesday in San Franciso, Calif.
“We’ve also done a lot in the online realm this year,” Fisher explained. “We are the first Wii title to support social networking sites, with Facebook and Twitter.”
These new features will give Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock a more “persistent online presence,” according to Fisher.
“When your friends do accomplishments in the game, you can broadcast those to your friends as well as to social networking sites,” Fisher elaborated. “We’ve also incorporated a Wii award system, so when you do specific challenges in the game, you get credited for an award. You can share those with your online friends as well.”
Players can check out these new features when Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock hits store shelves Sept. 28.
Er, wow. I’m kind of amused by this, but also a tiny bit impressed. Or I would be, if other games on other consoles hadn’t already done this for a while not.
I wonder how it’ll be implemented, though.
