More layoffs seem to be coming to the video game industry as it has been revealed by Bloomberg that Warner Bros. Games is closing down three of its studios. Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and Warner Bros San Diego are all on the chopping block. What’s more, Bloomberg is also alleging that the previously announced Wonder Woman game has also been canceled (Monolith Productions was working on that one).
The news comes as layoffs continue unabated into 2025, carrying over from all of 2024 and even part of 2023. That’s nearly two years now of almost constant turmoil in the industry. In this instance, WB Games is citing the underperformance of multiplayer game MultiVersus, which will be shutting down in May of this year. Apparently, the failure of Multiversus cost WB Games north of $100 million, thus the shuttering of these three studios.
