When Just Dance 2020 was announced at E3 2019, many were surprised by a particular detail: the game would be coming to Nintendo Wii. Ubisoft has now given a bit more insight into the decision.
Speculation immediately began on the internet (because when doesn’t it). Theories started circling that the game was coming to Wii because hospitals and convalescent homes use the game for physical rehabilitation for accident victims and the elderly.
This explanation turned out to be incorrect. A Ubisoft representative recently told Polygon, “It would be inaccurate to say that Just Dance is available on the Wii solely because it’s developed for physical therapy purposes. Just Dance 2020 is coming to the Wii because our audience wants it.”
Surprise, surprise, a developer is publishing a game for a console because… it sells on that console.
In response to a question on Just Dance’s playerbase by Polygon, Ubisoft said that the demographic consists mainly of children and families who play on Wii. Ubisoft has actually donated Wiis to children’s hospitals so kids can play Just Dance to assist with rehabilitation and to simply have fun, so while there is some truth to the speculation as to why Just Dance 2020 is coming out on Wii, that is far from the only demographic playing the game on the console.
Just Dance 2020 will be available on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Wii from November 5.
