At this weekend’s Toyfair event, a number of new products related to the Transformers brand were revealed. While the majority of the focus was on action figures from this summer’s Transformers: Age of Extinction film, a new pair of games were also announced. This summer, Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark will release on most major video game systems, including Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.

Rise of the Dark Spark isn’t a traditional movie tie-in game. While the title will pull in elements from the Michael Bay films, it will also tie-in into Activision’s War for Cybertron games, as well, with characters and gameplay derived from the critically acclaimed series. Players will control up to 40 different Transformers as the Autobots and Decepticons battle for the fate of two universes.

Edge of Reality is developing Rise of the Dark Spark on home consoles, while the 3DS version comes courtesy of WayForward Technologies. WayForward is best known for the Shantae franchise, as well as last year’s excellent DuckTales: Remastered. Edge of Reality has previously worked on the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series on Nintendo 64 as well as The Incredible Hulk on Nintendo Wii.
