Pokémon TCG Pocket has been a sensation since launch, but one of the key aspects about Pokémon trading cards in physical form is the ability to, well, trade them. Up until now, that feature hasn’t been available in the app, and it won’t be until January of next year when it finally goes live. We’ve gotten an official release window thanks to the folks at Pokémon TCG Pocket Operating Team. Here’s the announcement:
Hi everyone! Today, I’d like to share a brief statement by the #PokemonTCGPocket Team about more immediate updates coming to the game in the next few months.
I look forward to sharing more details with everyone as they become available! pic.twitter.com/eaN35vRpSw

While this is certainly welcome news, there’s the caveat in there of only “certain cards” being eligible for trade at the start, with plans to “gradually expand the selection of cards that are able to be traded.” That’s a bit of a bummer, not to mention odd—why should the selection be limited at all? If a player wants a specific card, for whatever reason, it’s unclear why such a restriction needs to be in place. It doesn’t seem like it would be a technical issue, but that’s purely speculation on this writer’s part.
Regardless, some good news is that new boosters will hit the Pocket app before the years ends, which will be nice to see. As we await the launch of trading, tell us which cards you hope make the cut and what you think of the selection being limited down in the comments!
