Anyone here remember Starfy? Developed by longtime Nintendo partner Tose, the Starfy series is somewhat reminiscent of the Kirby series. Starring the nominal Starfy, these platformers have never gotten wide release outside of Japan, with the exception of The Legendary Starfy, which game to Nintendo DS back in 2009. Now, three of the character’s Game Boy Advance adventures have come to Switch as part of the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service. Those games are:
- Densetsu no Starfy
- Densetsu no Starfy 2
- Densetsu no Starfy 3
You can check them out in this trailer:
Sadly, none of the trio have gotten any sort of localization from the staff at Nintendo of America, instead being launched as-is on the service. They’re easy enough to play without translation, but it continues as disappointing streak of Nintendo refusing to put effort into these rereleases of Japanese software here in the West. It’s curious timing to see this set of games coming to Switch given recent word that Tose has suffered some financial losses owing to several unannounced projects being canceled—one wonders if this might be Nintendo extending a hand to help Tose out? Regardless, the games can be downloaded at no additional charge for those with active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansiaon pack subscriptions.
