Nintendo has announced that The Mysterious Murasame Castle will make its North American debut on the 3DS Virtual Console next week. The Nintendo published title was originally released on NES in 1986, and wasn’t released in other markets until earlier this year. The game appeared on the European Virtual Console service in May, sparking rumors that it would eventually end up in North America, as well. The title follows protagonist Takamaru as he investigates Murasame Castle, which has been taken over by an alien creature. Fans of The Legend of Zelda might find some similarities in the gameplay, particularly in the title’s top-down perspective.

To coincide with the news of Takamaru’s North American debut, Mashiro Sakurai announced today that the character appears as an Assist Trophy in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. titles. It’s not the first time that The Mysterious Murasame Castle has been referenced in Nintendo’s fighting game franchise, however. Both a track from the game and a sticker of Takamura appeared in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Pic of the day. I, Takamaru, have waited many years to appear in Super Smash Bros.! Link, Samus, Pit, and I debuted in the same year! Multidirectional Pinwheel Knife Rook Attack!! (FYI, I’m an Assist Trophy.)

HECK YES, I will! On a serious note; try these titles, dear readers. Nintendo has no reason to grace us with this stuff if we DON’T. We say we want something different, we complain when things don’t get localized, but what reason would Nintendo have to ever do anything different if we don’t back up our claims with actual purchases of said titles? We vote with our dollars; go vote.

I’ve always been really curious about this game, so I’m excited to finally get a chance to download it.

I have to say, though, I’m a little disappointed Takamaru is only an Assist Trophy is Smash. He would’ve made a cool surprise fighter! But I guess it’s promising just to see him in the game at all. ;)
