Edmund McMillen has become something of an indie all-star thanks to Super Meat Boy and the Binding of Isaac, and his most recent game will arrive on Switch very soon. The publisher, Nicalis, has announced The End is Nigh will be releasing on Nintendo’s new hardware on December 12 in both physical and digital formats.
The End is Nigh casts players as Ash, a little blob trying to make his way through a post-apocalyptic world where just about everything can and will kill him. Like Super Meat Boy, this game is a 2D platformer designed to give gamers a significant challenge that becomes even harder for those looking to find every collectible and uncover every secret. However, The End is Nigh changes things up with significantly different mechanics and structure, so it appears to be much more than a rehash of Super Meat Boy.
One nice surprise is that both versions of the game will cost $29.99, which means there isn’t the same up-charge for the physical copy that a lot of publishers are instituting with Switch titles. Furthermore, those who pick up a copy from its initial run will get a special squishy Ash figurine.
