For a while, it looked like The Walking Dead: The Final Season would have the worst twist ending possible- none. The zombie franchise helped developer Telltale perfect their interactive storytelling formula and find a huge amount of success. However, a lack of willingness to evolve that formula and an over-extension into too many other franchises ultimately led to Telltale’s surprising demise last month, thus leaving the fate of their most famous franchise looking bleak. Thankfully, a light has now appeared at the end of this tunnel.
Members of the development team will be working with Skybound Games to finish this season. The choice of studio makes a lot of sense as it is part of Skybound Media, a company founded by the creator of the source material comic, Robert Kirkman. Between the members of the old staff and background of the new developers, it looks like everyone has a vested interest in making this series finale as good as possible.
Unfortunately, this announcement doesn’t give any timetable for when any of the last three episodes will be available, so stay on the lookout for more details down the road.
