Last year, Nintendo released The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD, a port developed by Tantalus Media. Many in the industry were surprised to see the Australian-based developer entrusted with such a major endeavor, but the results spoke for themselves. Now it appears that the developer will handle ports for Nintendo’s latest system, and they’re even asking fans to let them know which games they would like to see come to the new platform.
In a recent interview with Maxi-Geek, Tantalus Media revealed that they have been working with the Switch hardware for quite some time. In the interview, Tantalus CEO Tom Crago discussed his love for portable gaming while gushing a bit about the hardware itself.
As someone who makes games, what excites you about the Switch?
Nintendo have done well in terms of creating a development environment that’s friendly and systematic. That sounds a bit limp, but as a developer you’re always looking to remove barriers to efficiency. We’ve been really happy on the Switch so far. Beyond that we’re absolutely sold on the concept. The controllers are very cool, and the possibilities they open up for local multiplayer experiences are really interesting.
Outside of Twilight Princess HD, Tantalus has built a reputation for developing strong ports. The Wii U version of Mass Effect 3 was also handled by the company, which apparently attracted the attention of Nintendo. Crago has encouraged fans to suggest potential Switch ports at Tantalus’ Facebook page, which can be found here. You can also find the rest of the interview at the link below.

I don’t know exactly what Monolithsoft has planned for their Xenoblade series, especially with the way Xenoblade Chronicles X ended, but it might be a good idea to release a remaster of the last two games when they get closer to a third game releasing on Switch. It might not be a big money-maker, but it could be good to get people familiar with the worlds, particularly since not everyone got a Wii U.
Personally I probably wouldn’t buy it since I’m up to 110 hours played in X and starting over sounds rather daunting. But since we’re likely a couple of years from the next big Monolithsoft game, that gives Tantalus plenty of time to get things in order.
Xeno-Trilogy. Only on Switch.
I’d buy it.
Many wonderful Gamecube titles haven’t seen the light of HD but deserve to. Eternal Darkness, the original Pikmin (still my favorite), Metroid Prime, F-Zero GX, Super Mario Sunshine, Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes… (We can dream, right?)
A Xenoblade collection would indeed be lovely. Toadlord: create a dummy Wii U user and start a second file, it’s both more and less daunting than you think! :^)
The fact that so many great GCN titles have never been ported or adapted is a shame. Still my favorite console ever.
